TPN- Total Parenteral Nutrition

Home and alternate-site infusion therapy, backed by an accredited infusion pharmacy.

What is Total Parenteral Nutrition?

TPN is a home infusion therapy that is proven successful in supplying all of the daily nutritional requirements of both adults and children.

Who Receives Total Parenteral Nutrition?

TPN is a successful nutritional therapy for patients who suffer from a poorly functioning GI tract or who have disorders requiring bowel rest, such as the following:

  • Some stages of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
  • Bowel obstruction
  • Certain pediatric GI disorders
  • Short bowel syndrome due to surgery

Total Parenteral Nutrition Administration

TPN therapy delivers the water, energy, amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals that a patient’s body needs to return to a flourishing lifestyle. To meet each patient’s needs, solutions can be modified based on laboratory results, underlying disorders, hypermetabolism, or other factors. Because TPN solutions are concentrated, a central venous catheter is usually the required method of infusion. Your medical staff will determine the method that best suits your condition.
